Daxitarian's Debates

Capitalism is Bad for Society
*Please make this a legit debate* 1. Broad Statement: Capitalism disregards all factors of life because it's a system that only cares about economy and not the values of life for people. 2. Capitalism is oppressive and disregards the poor. The poor can't sell or make any profit thus they are in a vicious cycle of being oppressed. They can't make any money to pay off for food or other vital expenses. Meszcuros in his book, Toward a Critical Theory, argues that 1/4 of the world's popluation d...
existentialism is the preferred philsophy of life
for: Daxitarian (i couldn't invite him the normal way) i invited him back to debate this, because i think he does not understand, or has studied sufficiently, existentialism. kiekeegaard was a chrisitan. yet, he was the father of existentialism. so, even with an objective ethics system, one can be an existentialist, pursuing that objectivity. sarte and others emphasized stronger that we cannot know what objectivity is. but, they say we can seek it if we think it exists. as with kierk...
Basic Minimum, don't have a cow?
i am one to push for all who work to get a basic minimum. i've used examples like a giant on earth who tries to claim everything to the exclusion of everyone else to make my example. i think the following example i've used is best. back in the day, the frontier days... if you wanted a surgery, you would simply give the doctor, at most, a cow, and he'd do it for you. i've used this example before, somewhat facetiously, so i thought i'd bring it pu again as i got no major response....
existentialism is the preferred philosophy of life
The reason why I refuse to take existentialism as just another French fashion or historical curiosity is that I think it has something very important to offer us for the new century. I'm afraid we're losing the real virtues of living life passionately, sense of taking responsibility for who you are, the ability to make something of yourself and feeling good about life. Existentialism is often discussed as if it's a philosophy of despair. But I think the truth is just the opposite. Sartre once in...
John McCain is the Best canidiate for Democrats and Republicans

I believe John McCain is the best canidiate for both the democrats and republicans. i also think the democrats biggest fear is a republican taking office and the Republicans (and i can back this up because RepublicanView is a republican and its my biggest fear) biggest fear is a Democrat taking office. For both sides i believe John McCain is the best Canidiate for the job as president. I'll say it now, please anyone on the Republican side dont debate and say he's not conservative enough...
There is no evidence, and no tenable arguements, for the existence of any gods.
No evidence has been presented to humanity that either singularly or in combination conclusively proves the existence of any gods. Further, philosophical arguments for the existence of gods are untenable, and cannot result in a rational acceptance of the existence of any gods. All tangible evidence for the existence of gods can be explained by natural means. All philosophical arguments for the existence of gods do not hold up under scrutiny and rational exploration of their tenents. Thus,...
Abolishing tariffs, the minimum wage, and public education would help poor people.
Abolishing these three policies would do the most to help poor people. Poor people can't get an education or useful skills because they are forced to go to public schools. There is no correlation between funding and school performance. There is one between choice and performance. We would be better off getting rid of the schools and hand the money over to the families and let them decide how to best improve their lives. Not only can poor people not get any skills, but they can't get jobs b...
Should uniforms be mandatory in schools?
Uniforms don't allow students to express their personality, individuality, or even to get more wear out of their new clothes....
globalization - race to the bottom will ensue
i contend causes a race to the bottom, caused primarily by our unlimited, and for practical purposes, infinite supply of labor. which means people will always be willing to work for beans, cause our wealth to be spread so thin, people will be in poverty, and those regulations and protections that countries have will be let up to compete. this is all if globalization is allowed. for details of my argument see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_to_the_bottom...
The solution to illegal immigration requires enforcement of our current laws

Some argue that the status quo is de facto amnesty because it is extremely impractical to round up at least 12 million illegal immigrants and deport them. Those who say that are right as far as their reason, but off in saying that the status quo is de facto amnesty. Here's what we could do to solve the problem, and it would require nothing more than modest enforcement of our current laws: 1. Finish the fence across the whole border 2. Beef up manpower security at the border 3. Deport those...
