It's time to crackdown on cashpoint cripples.

brian_eggleston
attatae

First of all, a word of explanation for North American members – a "cashpoint cripple" is a cretin who parks their car illegally in order to use a nearby ATM because they are too damn lazy to walk a few yards. http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/cashpoint?view=uk In America, they have got drive-thru cashpoints for really lazy people, but here in Britain, there are no such things. However, we do have more than our fair share of incredibly indolent slobs who don't care if they cause a traff...

The next president should negotiate directly with the Iranian president

RogerOut
brian_eggleston

Resolved: The next president should negotiate directly with the Iranian president. Here's why: 1. Our willingness to meet and negotiate with the Iranian president would send a message to the large middle class of Iran that we respect them as a nation. Refusing to negotiate with their leader is an international humiliation that is felt by average Iranian citizens. Our best chance of moderating Iran is to begin to treat them as moderates. 2. Direct talks would be a leap of faith that woul...

To be against the right to possess a fire arm is to be, unwittingly, against self defense.

magpie
brian_eggleston

I believe that self defense is the most fundamental and essential right. If an individual is restrained from defending himself, his family, his community, or his country, he is left with absolutely no rights whatsoever. Without life, there are no rights! If a compendium of rights are agreed to and protected by law, but the right to self defense is absent, then the list of rights however long and valuable in themselves are voided by the first creep that chooses to relieve you of those rights....

The public have a right to know if Sarah Palin's "fifth child" is actually her daughter's.

brian_eggleston
uj0320

So, extreme right-wing, ultra-conservative, Christian fundamentalist Sarah Palin's unmarried teenage daughter, Bristol, is up the duff and rumours abound on the Internet that she is also the real mother of her younger brother. (1) If John McCain is elected President and snuffs it mid-term (not unimaginable given his advanced years), Sarah Palin will become the world's most powerful person. As she cannot possibly reconcile her failure to bring up her daughter in accordance with her staunch...

Men should be allowed into lesbian bars.

brian_eggleston
theLwerd

I have a number of lesbian friends and I would like to have more, so some of my mates and I went to the Candy Bar in Soho, which is a lesbian bar. http://www.thecandybar.co.uk/ However, we were refused entry on the grounds that we were men, even though I explained that our intentions were entirely honourable and we would be in now way offended by the sight of women engaging in sexual activity with one another. I believe that the refusal of the bar's management to grant admittance to men...

It is morally permissible to kill Nelson Mandela to save the lives of innocent orphans.

brian_eggleston
jmlandf

This debate is inspired by the forthcoming LD debate: "It is morally permissible to kill one innocent person to save the lives of more innocent people" but I don't know how to do LD debate (and I'm too lazy to learn) so please forgive my self-indulgence in pursuing a less formal interpretation of the topic. Picture the scene, if you will. It is a fine day in South Africa and Nelson Mandela is at the controls of his Ziviko Edge 540 single-seater stunt plane. All is well and he is heading home...

Fast food outlets that sell "hamburgers" should be fined or closed down.

brian_eggleston
Labrat228

These cretinous catering conmen are swindling their customers and getting away with it. They are passing off what are just ordinary beefburgers* as "hamburgers", but they are not hamburgers at all because: 1 – They do not contain 100% ham. In fact, they don't even contain 1% ham. Indeed, hamburgers are actually totally ham-free products. If you are forbidden by your religion to eat pork, don't worry; you can eat as many hamburgers as you like without jeopardising your chances of making it int...

Does using torture increase the likelihood that our soldiers will get tortured?

Thaddaeus
brian_eggleston

The answer is no. Islamic fundamentalists don't live by some sort of code of retributive justice: they will torture and behead anyone that gets in their way, regardless of whether that person is an innocent and defenseless nun on a peacekeeping mission or a soldier from a country that tortures its enemies. It's silly to think that waterboarding terrorists somehow increases the likelihood that our soldiers will get tortured if caught by terrorists. The chances of torture is, and always has been,...

If your mum asks Mr. Glitter to be your babysitter, hit her!

At time of writing, former glam-rock star, Gary "Do you want to be in my cell, my cell, oh yeah" Glitter, is on his way to Hong Kong from Bangkok, having been deported from Vietnam after serving two years and nine months in prison for molesting little girls. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/08/20/glitter.thailand/index.html He didn't want to get his connecting flight back to London because he suspected (probably rightly) that there will be a mob of outraged people - all baying for...

Homosexual convicts should serve their time in solitary confinement.

brian_eggleston
DarkBitch

Who amongst us can honestly hold their hands up and say that they've never broken the law? Not many, I bet. Now, let's say you had an all-day session down the pub and, after drinking your age in pints, you drove home and on the way you ploughed through a group of orphans who were on a charity fun run raising money for baby bunny rabbits with AIDS. Then, when your case came to court, the judge sentenced you to a month in prison for every orphan's life you'd snuffed out and, consequently, you w...
