Plans are afoot in Britain to introduce dedicated lanes on motorways (freeways) that would be for the sole use of vehicles conveying more than one person, known in the US, where they already exist, as Multi-Occupancy Lanes (MOL's). Clearly, a slow-moving convoy of trucks hauling abnormally wide loads should travel in single file, because if they drove side-by-side they would effectively block the entire carriageway.
