Con ~ Round 1

I think Barry Bonds doesn't deserve to be in the hall of fame because it is very likely that he cheated (used steroids) to accomplish all of his stats. The hall of fame should be a place for player which represent baseball in a positive light. If Pete Rose doesn't get into the hall because he broke the rules neither does barry. This is also why players like Palmero and Mcguire also shouldn't be inducted because they used roids. It shouldn't matter for barry that his stats are much better than Palmero or Mcguire cause they all cheated in the same way and he lied to congress about cheating.

Pro ~ Round 1

It has never been shown that steroids contributed in any way to Bonds and his performance. The main reason there has been so much controversy surrounding him is because he is such a great player. No-name players who have been caught using steroids have their stories blow over in a matter of days, but because of Bonds' reputation for playing so well he has been highlighted for years.

The Hall of Fame should be a place for great baseball players to be remembered, whether or not in a positive light. A great example is arguably the greatest player that ever played baseball, Ty Cobb. In his time he may have been the most hated man in baseball, but at the same time he was voted into the very first Hall of Fame ballot by a whopping 97% of the votes. As for Pete Rose, I don't believe he should be left out of the Hall of Fame for gambling. If anything, gambling would make one try to lose games on purpose, but to do the things Rose did requires skill and greatness as a ballplayer.

The reasons why Barry Bonds should be in the Hall of Fame for sure:

Home Runs: 1: 762
Total Bases: 4: 5976
RBI: 4: 1996
Times on Base: 2: 5599
Runs: 3: 2227
Extra Base Hits: 2: 1440
Walks: 1: 2558
Intentional Walks: 1: 688
Stolen Bases: 514 (only member of 500HR-500SB club)
On Base Percentage: .444
At Bats per HR: 12.92
1: 73 HR in single season
1: 8 HR in single post season
1: 13 consecutive seasons with 30 or more HR
1: .863 slugging percentage in a single season
1: 8 consecutive seasons with .600 slugging percentage or higher
1: .609 on base percentage in a single season
1: 232 walks in a single season

I voted PRO because I think PRO made the better argument. However, I personally don't think that Bonds should inducted. If we were to let Bonds and Rose slide and to allow them penitence for their sins against the game, then there will be no reason for some one else in the future to say, "hey, you let these guys slide for this, what about me?"

And so you just open the door to a disrespect of rules that keep the game honest. You can't let Bonds in because he continually flouted the rules many, many times and was one of the biggest a-hole that ever disgraced the sport.
