All right…I'll play the devil's advocate.

Racist: is one who believes that inherent differences among the various human races determine inferiority or superiority.

The reason why it is OK to be a racist is the same reason why it is OK to believe in anything. Racism by definition is a belief, and like all beliefs, a person is also entitled to his belief that some races are inferior to others, regardless of weather any of us disagree with them. People have the right to believe in anything they want to believe in, despite how absurd, unusual, stupid, ignorant, or ridiculous that belief may be. So long as they don't attack anyone or harm anybody I really couldn't care less what they believe in.

My opponent may argue that racism may lead to violence, however committing a violent act against another race is not a necessity required to be racist. A racist can live a happy life believing that a particular race is inferior to another, while at the same time not harming anyone from the "inferior" race, that belief alone would qualify him to be a racist, even though he did not commit any violence.

In addition, if violence in the name of racism is committed, it is the "violence" that should be punished, not the belief. I will base this on several contentions:

1)The extra punishment of any racist belief that may be"thought" during one's illegal activities violates one's freedom of thought: Once you step into the realm of punishing people for neurons that gather at different parts of the brain, then you have truly taken the Justice System, and turned it into a clown shop. To say that I should get an extra punishment because I "thought" something while I was committing violence is truly absurd. The violence should be punished, not the thoughts.

2)The extra punishment of ones racist beliefs may also violate one's freedom of religion, in clear violation of the separation of church and state. Some religions are arguably racist, and thus, if punished by the government, will violate one's right to believe in whatever religious belief he or she wishes to believe.

3)Punishments that do not include the prosecution for one's racist beliefs are already sufficient. For example murder, rape, theft, and vandalism have already been illegal and subject to persecution without the need to enact "hate crimes." Just because these crimes may still happen does not, in any way justify violating one's freedom of thought and religion.

Racists can believe whatever they want to believe. So long as they don't harm anyone, it's OK.

Now you try! ↕`╓▒╩─¡║

The logic is pretty simple

1) It is okay to believe in anything you want to believe in, as long as you don't harm anyone else.

2) Racism is a belief

3) You don't have to harm others in order to be a racist

Therefore, it is okay to be a racist.

Please don't debate me in the comment section ;)

leethal, if you see this, this is one of the reasons why I'm snarky and also holier than everyone else. If travesties like this didn't happen, I wouldn't need to be so criticizmic!

It's cool Hellcat :) I knew you were defending me.:) I just wanted to make it clear to everyone that I am NOT a racist.

Hey! Whoa! I was defending you, somebody called you a racist, not exactly in those words I don't think, and I was pointing out why I thought that that was the last thing you were.. looking back I did seem to word it a bit open ended, that's what I dislike about talking over the internet, you can't read tones.

@Mangani: You are being completely ridiculous. Did you read the debate at all. Read my opponent's round 1.

"Tell me why it is okay to hate other cultures and other poeple with different beliefs and skin color?"

That was how MY OPPONENT DEFINED racism. as a BELIEF. My opponent wanted to know why it is okay to hate, and I answered that. hatred exists in the mind.

@Hellkat: Who said I descriminate? Who said I am racist? I was in the mood for a debate that's all. And yes I am Jewish.

Mangani- the point he had to prove was why it was okay, not why it was acceptable. There is probably more than one defenition of racism and he used one, so by the defenition he provided he was correct. Seeing as con could not even make any arguments, technicalities won him this one anyways.

Bitz, are you Jewish? If you are then I suppose you'd be the last person to be somebody who discriminates or is racist seeing as many people who discriminate against Jews for some reason think they are a race.

...I think anyways. Oh whatever, you get my point right? Right.

But yeah, you win by default, you made pretty good points too. Godd job.

Bitz, you have ignored the definition of racism. You have given a false definition, and your definition is only the beginning of any encyclopedia definition (being an idea, a dictionary definition should not suffice, though most dicionary definitions do try to go into the encyclopedic definition). Sociologists define racism as a system of group privelege. The UN goes into great depth in their definition of racism and racial discrimination, considering the previous the institutionalized form of the latter. Based on the proper definition of racism (though not provided by your opponent), and given the fact that you failed to prove "con's" question of "why is racism not wrong", you have failed to prove your point. My vote to con.

I do agree that racism is a belief. How many people do you think are closet racists? If a man walks into his bedroom and says 'I hate Jews', he has a right to say it. What he can't do is copy Hitler's Genocide, the Holocaust.

As long as you're not hurting anybody, you can be racist. When you start being prejudice against those with skin-based prejudicial beliefs, that's when you start becoming what you hate.

However, I do believe that skin is a funny (or not) thing to dislike someone for...

Though I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, I hope those who really are racist realize they hate someone based on the number of enzymes in their skin. It's amazing such large racial intolerances and disputes are caused by a molecule.

STOP GIVING RACISM POWER. WE KEEP TRYING TO BE POLITICALLY CORRECT, AND WE'RE JUST CONFUSING OURSELVES. This new politically correct attitude is just making the issue of race more and more sensitive, and now people are blowing up over the smallest racial comment. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD?!

*Did you know not even thirty years ago FAT was the politically correct term for FAT PEOPLE. But due to sensitivity on the issue, they're overweight.
