Pro ~ Round 1

Why shouldn't we help prevent it? Humans are the ones causeing all the pollutiona and habitat destruction that is making it difficult for species to adapt and reproduce.

Con ~ Round 1

Life is very versatile. While it is true that human domination of the planet kills many, many species a day, the pollution and waste is going to be a self limiting factor. Man cannot beat nature, it is simply unbeatable. Even if we make the planet so inhospitable that human race itself will be near wiped out, other life forms will still thrive, and after humans are extinct, the world will reform itself.

Given that, the only reason why we should bother to preserve species, is if it directly affects us. This can reduce even more down to "We should only preserve our own species". Why help prevent the extinction of other species? my opponent uses evolutionary adaptation in his argument. However, he assumes that evolution is not just a teleological process, but a fair process in which all living species have a right to evolve. This is severely flawed. If humans are superior species, why should we go out of our way to prevent the extinction of other species other than for our own personal gain?

Con ~ Round 2

Obviously my opponent has not responded, so my arguments stand. I really hope he decides to return because I don't really like winning by default.

Con ~ Round 3

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? could you be mine? won't you be my neighbor?

Since Pro's entire argument consisted of a mere two sentences, I have to vote for Con. Though I must say, I find it strange that Pro has already obtained 5 votes by forfeiting two out of three rounds.

P.S. I like the throwback to Mister Roger's Neighborhood.

well, seeing as the pro never fully explained why we should save other speicies or responded to con, i have to vote CON.

how pro got 4 votes is a mystery to me. probably they just read the topic and voted for the side they agreed with. such a horrible thing that is, if only rfd's were required. *sigh*

So, BEnglish, I assume that means you would never consider moving into a NEW home? Never consider shopping at a store where clearing first occurred?

Fact is, as the populace grows, so does the need for space to house us all. So does the need for more land to grow crops. And drill for oil.

Methinks your concern for extinction of certain animals stops at your own doorstep. Sounds like a great idea, as long as it doesn't affect YOUR way of life.

We should go out of are way because we are already the superior species and we should give the animals a chance to evolve and because these species make this world exciting and fasinating, they make people think about there is more in the world than humans,so killing them for your own personal gain is just a stupid excuse to become a killer just a bloodthirsty killer and you need animals in your life with out them the world is incomplete and KNOWN but if animal were not to become extinct the world would become more UNKNOWN as people would find more and learn more about these great creatures.

I am an Activist so any harm done to animals in evil and cruel in my eyes.We are the main cause of animal extinction, do you see other animals pollute the earth, its just us and we know that we pollute the earth but we do nothing to stop it we just sit and watch the earth rot and decay. The animals suffer more by this than we do,they drink the water we pollute but the factor I have to consider is that we are at the top of the food chain but that doesnt mean we have to kill everything with a pulse until there is nothing left or they become extinct. We just kill enough so that we can survive but also so the animal can reproduce. But have you ever wondered if your kids or grandkids will see a polar bear or siberan tiger? Or are you to cruel and heartless to think about the welfare of the future generation.
