I do indeed learn from my homework. I just think that the time and place for such a thing is at school, and no where else. I am not so naieve as to be against schoolwork itself, but doing it at Home is not necessary.

True. I applaud your intelligence. Perhaps we can get right to the root of your argument. You state that your homework is a waste of time...do you learn anything from your homework ? Given your intelligence, it is quite possible that you are not learning anything new. In that case, it shouldn't take that long. What do you perceive your homework is for ?

On the contrary. I retired at 40 because I studied, had good work habits, and worked hard. I have travelled, do martial arts, bodybuild, hike, bike, written a book, jumped out of an airplane-I could go on & on. Life is TOUGH, Harlan. You need every edge you can get. It is a fact that children's brains are more pliable than adults-everything I learned I learned when I was a kid. It's when we're most receptive. The philosophy of work hard now, enjoy it later has been replaced by "I want it now". What would you be doing with your 2-3 hours of free time if not homework ? Surfing the net ? Video games ? Talking on the phone ? or (God forbid) zoning on TV ? If you get 8 hours of sleep and 11 hours of school/homework time, what are you doing with those 5 extra hours ?If you are willing to take college courses to get ahead of the competition and homework is part of that, why wouldn't you want to ? Because it takes DISCIPLINE to self-study (homework). Do you NEED a teacher to hold ur hand?

Hi Harlan. The fact is you are still a child. The 'work' you are referring to is child's play. When you're an adult, the real work will never end. Because of your age, you don't know anything else; to you, homework is 'work'. Ask any nurse who works 12-hour shifts, any waitress who works two jobs to raise her kids and pay the bills, any CEO of a company faced with declining profits and angry shareholders, what they think is harder, and you will get the same answer. You want to be prepared for your working years ? Well, you're getting a lesson in time management, efficiency and task completion, whether you know it or not. Life is filled with deadlines (such as getting your homework done every night). Salaried employees don't go home after 8 hours if the work is not done. Your inexperience is not your fault...you're young. You shouldn't bemoan the fact about homework..you want to take these classes so you won't have to later, then you should take everything that comes with it.

I am taking these classes now, so I won't have to take them later.

I am actually trying to decrease the amount of school that I go to in my lifetime. Not taking these classes would mean more work later on.

I feel your pain, Harlan. You state, "Eight hours a day, 5 days a week, 9 months a year it is very demanding". Welcome to the world ! Most every adult does this, WITHOUT a three-month vacation ! In fact, Americans were the hardest-working (and most productive) people in the world according to a recent study. As such, many people take their work home with them after they leave. This is all 'being an adult' in America. I understand you're a child; however, why are you taking 'adult' (college) classes ? Perhaps you should take classes more suited to your AGE, not your intellect. Intelligence is only part of getting through life...you are experiencing the other parts of getting along in life...and perhaps you're not ready for it yet.
