I love the game, yeah, but I feel that even though she was designed to be a powerful woman figure. But she also seems to come off as designed for men's viewing pleasure.(By viewing pleasure I mean sexually.)
Dictionary.com Pleasure- enjoyment or satisfaction derived from what is to one's liking; gratification; delight. Cleavage- the area between a woman's breasts, esp. when revealed by a low-cut neckline. Not only is she designed with a large bust and butt, there are some parts of the game where her butt is purposely up close. The character also wears shirts which reveal clevage and shorts that are quite literally up her butt. I know this sounds pervy but I am being serious with this.
Alright. Thanks for starting the debate. To all the observers, whomever you decide to vote for, I deserve some kudos for having the balls to take the CON on this! Also, please, please, PLEASE vote for the debater that makes a better argument, not the side you agree with. I'm worried that voting on this issue will be more biased than voting on abortion! But anyways, let's get to this. First, I'd like to dispell one of your claims. You try to claim that she wears a lot of shirts that reveal her chest, but this isn't true. Here's a picture of the evolution of the character: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/ff/LaraCroftTombRaiderEvoWUnderw.jpg Only in two of these pictures (the last one and the third to last one) does the shirt really expose her cleavage. Furthremore, since this debate is about how she was DESIGNED, we should be looking at the original Lara Croft, as this shows us the original design. Here's a picture of the original Lara Croft: http://www.tombraideranniversary.com/images/webmaster/large/evolution/tr1frame.jpg Now, I'll admit that the breasts are big and that the shorts are short, but as a male, this iamge really isn't very visually pleasurable to me. Is it to any of you males? You can negate on face since the Lara Croft design really isn't that visually appealling. Now, as to why that, even if that image was visually appelling, Lara Croft still isn't designed for that appeal. You see, my opponent is focusing in on two major factors: big boobs and short shorts. But look as to why Lara has these aspects of her character. Think about when Lara has to swim. Those big breasts help her float! They simply provide bouancy when she needs it. As for the shorts; well, Lara is often in hot and/or humid climates. Why shouldn't she be wearing cool clothing like short shorts? Otherwise she would overheat and would be unable to continue her mission! The shorts are a necessity, just like the tank top! They simply help to keep her cool during the mission. From my case, you can clearly see how Lara Croft was NOT designed simply for a male's viewing pleasure. Please, vote CON. |

Well, I extend all of my arguments into the next round. Because of the forfeit, none of my points have been refuted yet. |
