They are the best band of all time. They are considered to be one of the most influential bands of all time and are credited for inventing the metal genre. Black Sabbath comes in a close second, but they are not as great as Led Zeppelin.
Okay, Led Zeppelin is definitely one of the greatest bands ever formed, no doubt about that. But there are a few bands that I would consider better, and I'm sure there are many other bands that a lot of other people would consider better. The bands I consider better than Led Zeppelin are: The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, and Bob Dylan (especially with The Band). The easiest argument against Led Zeppelin being the best band of all time is obviously the Beatles. Every album, and pretty much every single that the Beatles released went straight to number 1 on the charts. I mean, the Beatles were without a doubt the most popular band ever. And, although popularity definitely doesn't make a band good, I think the Beatle's popularity actually reflected their greatness. For their first albums they had a bunch of catchy love songs that made them super popular, and then after they they released many amazing albums of really deep and meaningful music. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr were all in one band, and in their case I think they brought all their genius together to create the best band of all time. That means Led Zeppelin is not the best band of all time. |

The band have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide, and they are the only band to have had all their albums reach the U.S. Billboard Top 10, so that should tell you something. The Beatles is one of the best bands of all time, but they're into blues, whereas Zeppelin was more of hard rock. Obviously, what was more heavy is what invented metal. I said Black Sabbath comes second to Led Zeppelin because Zepplin was there before, and they released some heavy albums before Black Sabbath. Zepplin released two albums before Sabbath, and a few months after Sabbath released their first album, Zeppelin released Led Zeppelin III. Their solos are influential in all kinds of metal, especially their "Stairway to Heaven."
I shall quote Wikipedia: "In the United Kingdom, The Beatles released more than 40 different singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one. This commercial success was repeated in many other countries: their record company, EMI, estimated that by 1985 they had sold over one billion discs and tapes worldwide.[3] The Beatles are the best-selling musical act of all time in the United States, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.[4] In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Beatles #1 on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[5] According to that same magazine, their innovative music and cultural impact helped define the 1960s,[2] and their influence on pop culture is still evident today." "# The Beatles have notched up the most multi-platinum selling albums for any artist or musical group (thirteen in the U.S. alone). # The Beatles have a record six diamond-selling albums (10 million copies): Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles, Abbey Road, The Beatles: 1962-1966, The Beatles: 1967-1970, and The Beatles 1. # The Beatles have had more number one albums than any other group (19 in the U.S. and 15 in the United Kingdom). # The Beatles spent the highest number of weeks at number one in the albums chart (174 in the UK and 132 in the U.S.)." |

second if we are going to pull this "greatest ever" crap, offer a paradigm, something to judge by. talent, sound, whatever. otherwise people can simply argue that Behemoth is better because they are faster and more talented. i hate it when debates are pulled like this.
