I am a former-supporter of Barack Obama, until he began mixing religion in with his campaign.
I would like to establish that I would not even care if he was a christian, just so long as he kept it out of his politics. But he is going around trying to appeal to the masses by looking religious. ANd I assert that this is the wrong type of appeal to try to create. A good candidate would mention religion as little as possible. He would make it well known that he (or her) has a clear distinction between religion and politics. He would stand firm on the idea of the seperation of church and state. But Obama has gone and tried to get people to vote on him based on religious appeal. ONly to attract the masses. This puts him at the level of Huckabee (my opponent actually sees Huckabee as the best republican candidate, and even admires him). This says either one of 2 things about Obama: -He does not understand or envelop the concept of speration of church and state or... -He just goes with the image that wil get the most votes In either case, it is negative. If the first, we will have a candidate who justifies actions based on religious beliefs. POlicies will be made on religion, too. In the second, we have democracy de-railed. We no longer have people that represent what they really stand for, to whom people vote, and if they lose, it was rightly so, because the majority is satisfied, no, we would then have people just trying to win. And that's what happens, what is happening. JasonGray forfeited this round. |

WEll, I stand by that opinion, but Edwards has dropped out, so I will not worry voer this trivial affair to much.
