Politicians often claim a Christian background, but American politics are rather unchristian.

I've heard many political conservatives invoke God's blessing on our nation and on our troops. Unfortunately, there's nothing Godly or Christian about the pro-war position conservatives often gravitate to. Many political liberals are also guilty of this same inconsistency, but I feel conservatives are more war-prone than liberals.
Jesus instructed us to love our enemies and do good to them. Instead, we ask for God's blessing as we bomb and destroy our enemies -- actions that I believe no TRUE Christian could condone. I believe we should stop asking for God's blessing, and ask for his MERCY. War and violence is an affront to Jesus and his teachings in the Bible. Destroying human life, God's creation, is a heinous departure from the teachings of Christ. This debate is not about the legitimacy of the Iraq war or any other war. It is about the inconsistency of a purported Christian devotion crossing with support for any violence or war. theLwerd forfeited this round. |

I hope the Lwerd returns for the second round!
In this round I will demonstrate my personal favorite teaching of Jesus', that in Matthew 5:43-44, he says "You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you" Preemptive and redemptive violence are policies historically adopted by the United States, but Christians are instructed to practice neither of those. Our devout Christian leaders seem to be doing a poor job... theLwerd forfeited this round. |

I would have liked to see a good debate by theLwerd, but if she would have another intresting debate I would conclude that the person who made mutiple acounts would just vote against her again, createing an unfair judgement. Im disapointed but not suprised when people do this.=(
Haveing this debate theLwerd sought and took and obvious mistake and exploited it.
It would be hippocratical too avoid the fact that all who have debated always try to exploit their antagonist's blunder or used one of the many techniques used to gain the people's opinion. (mudslinging is the funniest to watch).
So I must point out that you cannot blame theLwerd for takeing the easy way out... oh wait you can... you cannot JUDGE theLwerd for takeing the easy way out.
I end my case with 1,120 characters remaining.
Self defense as you put it is as much about preservation as it is about destruction. You are not preserving life by killing the killers. That's not preserving life at all. Preserving life means to be committed to completely non violent resolution.
huh???
