Technology is a broad concept that deals with the usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects the ability to control and adapt to the environment. Technology is what separates us from apes and other animals. Without Technology, we would be living far worse off than we were living even before the Industrial Revolution. |

Technology is what separates man from animals. We do not have any tools, besides our fists, that we do not use technology for to survive. Without technology of some sort, be it tools, shelter building, or other means of survival, the vast majority of us would certainly die. |

Therefore were your definition of "necessity" valid, we never have the necessities we all need.
to finish:
but I do need at least SOME minimal technology to sterilize my food and hunt and build shelter with.
If I pick up a rock and use it as an axe or knife, is that technology?
As a survivalist I can tell you that my bare minimum would be at least a sharp rock or stick. A cooking fire would be important for sanitation of food and water. So I may not need modern technology like computers
