Technology makes things easier but is not necessary
we can live without it
it may help us with information and cooking but there was a time when we didnt have all of that and people it was just fine.

Technology is a broad concept that deals with the usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects the ability to control and adapt to the environment. Technology is what separates us from apes and other animals. Without Technology, we would be living far worse off than we were living even before the Industrial Revolution.

Technology is what separates man from animals. We do not have any tools, besides our fists, that we do not use technology for to survive. Without technology of some sort, be it tools, shelter building, or other means of survival, the vast majority of us would certainly die.

Snoopy - People always die for the lack of something.
Therefore were your definition of "necessity" valid, we never have the necessities we all need.

A necessity would be that which allowed the ENTIRE human race to survive, not just a few. In any individual case, a necessity is that which allows oneself to survive. If a lack of agricultural technology lead to your starvation, that agricultural technology constituted a necessity.

The human race would change as we know it bringing us down to the level of most apes, and our population would decline to the point where it would be negligible.

If some of the human race can survive... it is clearly not a necessity.

Odd, my internet went down after I typed that:
to finish:
but I do need at least SOME minimal technology to sterilize my food and hunt and build shelter with.

What we have here is a failure to define technology.
If I pick up a rock and use it as an axe or knife, is that technology?
As a survivalist I can tell you that my bare minimum would be at least a sharp rock or stick. A cooking fire would be important for sanitation of food and water. So I may not need modern technology like computers

In this context, "necessary" means "a prerequisite to human survival." Technology is a very broad term that refers to pretty much anything beyond using rocks to beat stuff to a pulp. This being the case, technology is, to a certain extent, necessary. The population of the world couldn't possibly be fed without agricultural technology, therefore one must say that technology is necessity.
