Pro ~ Round 1
This will be a three round debate. The debate will work in this manner: 1A: First Post Instigator: This explanatory post. 1B: First Post Contender: Contender suggests a list of 3 topics, phrased in valid format (ie. not in question format) Topics should be legitimate, and varied. 2A: Second Post Instigator: Instigator responds with his choice of the three. 2B: Second Post Contender: Contender then chooses a position on that issue and has the choice of whether to go first or second. If the contender chooses to go first, he effectively becomes the instigator and makes his opening statement immediately. If he chooses to do so, he must forfeit his last round response by typing "thank you for the debate" until the character count is satisfied. Otherwise, he types "I will allow my opponent to make the opening statement" until the character count is satisfied. The rest of the rounds act as the rounds of a typical debate. Con ~ Round 1
w00t. RESOLUTION 1: "Resolved: Policy debate, or Cross-examination debate, is superior to all other forms of debate." RESOLUTION 2: "Resolved: Lincoln Douglas debate is superior to all other forms of debate." RESOLUTION 3: "Resolved: Public Forum debate is superior to all other forms of debate." Pro ~ Round 2
I doubt my opponent is going to read this before his turn arrives, so I'll have to do this. 1. The topics proposed by my opponent are essentially one topic. In exchange for being forced to debate both a position and a topic that I myself do not choose, I request only that I be given a choice between a variety of topics. This request has been denied by my opponent and I ask kindly that he proposes three new topics (of which one of the old ones may be included) that will fulfill my requirements. I request that these three new topics be posted in the comments section, which I will diligently check at least once a day. I will then comment on my topic of choice and the debate will continue on as detailed in the first post. Con ~ Round 2
This round was forfeited because the debater did not post their argument within the allotted time. Pro ~ Round 3
This round was forfeited because the debater did not post their argument within the allotted time. Con ~ Round 3
If you will look in the comments section, you will see our arguments. He claims my topics are the same topic. My three topics fit perfectly under the rules. If he will just accept one of them, this debate will be started. Pro ~ Round 4
I forfeit. I'm looking for a good debate, my opponent is looking for votes. I wish him the best of luck. Con ~ Round 4
Well, since my opponent forfeited, you have no choice but to vote for me. I see no reason why he wouldn't just debate a topic, but I'll take it. And yes, I am looking for votes. Isn't that the point of debating- to win? Pro ~ Round 5
This round was forfeited because the debater did not post their argument within the allotted time. Con ~ Round 5
You'll take my life but I'll take yours too You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through So when you're waiting for the next attack You'd better stand there's no turning back. The Bugle sounds and the charge begins But on this battlefield no one wins The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath As I plunge on into certain death. The horse he sweats with fear we break to run The mighty roar of the Russian guns And as we race towards the human wall The screams of pain as my comrades fall. We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground And the Russians fire another round We get so near yet so far away We won't live to fight another day. We get so close near enough to fight When a Russian gets me in his sights He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow A burst of rounds take my horse below. And as I lay there gazing at the sky My body's numb and my throat is dry And as I lay forgotten and alone Without a tear I draw my parting groan. Member Comments (6)Only members can post comments. Woah... hold your horses there. I never said I was confused nor did I say I wanted to rig it. I wanted to debate about which is the best style of debate. That fit perfectly under the rules. Now, just because you don't want to debate it, you tried to pull this thing. And you failed. And yes, I could've changed it, but I didn't feel that was really necessary. It fits under your rules, and I didn't do anything wrong. All in all, I think you're the one that should've admitted you were wrong and just debated it. I think all of this is whining, and you could've learned a lot had you just debated it. 1 Month Ago
To answer your question Con, I like debating because it provides the free exchange of ideas, and hopefully, I'll learn something. Now that you've decidedly won this debate, I just have to ask you a question: It's not possible for you to have been confused as to what I meant. No one is that stupid. Thus, you deliberately chose to rig the debate that way. That's fine. A bit obnoxious, but fine. I then explained to you that I felt what you did was unfair, because I wanted an enjoyable debate. There are some issues I just don't care to debate, some issues I don't understand at all. After appealing to you twice, you just decided to continue with it. My question is, was the win worth it? You wasted a huge amount of my time when a simple concession would have given us both a nice debate. Was that really necessary? 1 Month Ago
varied: "characterized by or exhibiting variety; various; diverse; diversified" These all are different, they all have different subject matter. Furthermore, you never set a quota about HOW MUCH these needed to be varied. Such an attempt would be nearly impossible. The only possible quota you could've set is different subject matter, and that's what I did. It's like saying, 'pick three topics that would help America.' I'd say increasing education, fixing welfare, switching to alternative energy. Following your logic, these would all be the same. 2 Months Ago
Incorrect. All the topics you have listed dealt with forms of debate. I made it quite clear in my R2 post why I felt I should be given the opportunity to debate various topics. Looking at your three debate as a whole, the option is basically to argue for the form of debate I feel is superior. There are no other alternatives. In that case, there is only one topic of debate. Since you have ignored my reasoning and decided only to reason that your proposal fit the title, I have every reason to assume that you did this purposely, and without the intention of offering a debate that we will both see as fair. I will offer you more time, and request that you offer more subjects of debate, in varying categories and stop attempting to rig it. 2 Months Ago
