search and seizure of lockers and backpacks

I am in favor of there being search and siezures in students back packs and lockers. Too many students these day are bringing uncalled for things to school such as, guns, drugs, energy drinks, and fireworks.

Lockers and backpacks exist in various locations - not just schools. For instance many gyms and fitness centers provide lockers to their members, and a lot of individuals utilize backpacks in their every day lives for convenience. Their usage is not limited to students in grades K-12 -- are you suggesting that law enforcement have the right to stop someone on the street and inspect their belongings? If so, why limit it to just backpacks? Why not search through every woman's purse or every businessman's briefcase? The fact of the matter is that people make bad decisions all the time. Infringing upon people's right to privacy will not eliminate the problem. In most cases, determined individuals will find a way to get around the rules anyway (i.e. putings drugs/guns in their pocket, or smuggling those dangerous and fatal Red Bulls or other energy drinks into Gatordade bottles).
