i think it should be optional because kids already dropping out of school now when there are being told to go to school if we make it optional i tell kids are going to stop dropping out
Our Country is already behind others in terms of schooling. Japanese students are far more advanced in math and science, and so are German ones. If anything, our school system needs to be revamped and taken more seriously. Pro, your argument of some are going to drop out anyway is slightly ridiculous. Yes, a small percentage of people will drop out. Which is unfortunate. How does this justify our country completely ignoring the problem all together? Let's say that your wish comes true, and school is no longer mandatory. There will be thousands of unaccounted for youth's running the streets during the day. Schools keep American youths controlled and educated. As an American, I find it necessary to educate today's youth for tomorrow's progress. Without school, working parent's would have to pay double, triple, or quadruple what they would otherwise for daycare. The literacy rate (which is at 97% right now) would plummet. A lesson that all must learn in life, is that we must sometimes do things we don't necessarily want to. Not only is school teaching children math, science, history, literature, grammar, and countless other things; it is teaching them a sense of personal completion and assuredness. You must complete things. When things get difficult, you must stick it out and keep on trucking! Isn't this the spirit that America embodies? So, your theory of: <<kids already dropping out of school now when there are being told to go to school if we make it optional i tell kids are going to stop dropping out>> won't work. A 16 year old kid won't wake up and say to himself... "hmm... I don't have to go to school... so I think I will. The 16 year old wakes up, and thinks to himself: " I have to hurry and get to school, or I'll be late". Structure, discipline, and certified education. Parents, and children should be held legally responsible to educate the youth of this country. |

I'm sorry that my opponent has no retort. Hopefully next round, they will have gotten around to finishing, and will reply to my arguments. Thanks for reading! |

No I can't. Canada would enslave me too, and more effectively.
I cannot hoard a fortune because I do not have one, and any attempt to make one in any short order would result in government confiscation. Therefore I'm taking the long road, which will no doubt result in very little fortune, but if successful will result in freedom to use that fortune.
"I'm sorry your not for the progression of the country."
I am in fact, just in a different direction than you. You want this country to progress toward every citizen being enslaved to whatever every other citizen demands of them. I want it to progress toward every citizen being free to live their life as their own.
Simply because one does not feel an "obligation" does not mean one does not desire a thing for other reasons.
If such a need is present, fulfill it with voluntary funds (i.e. private education).
"We have an obligation to keep America moving, growing and developing."
I don't know about you, but I have incurred no such obligation. I never signed any such contract.
"I think school attendance should optional. This is because students are dropping out of school anyway even when required to attend. If we make it optional they will stop dropping out."
I agree with her but don't see the logic in this.
Keep in mind sadolite, rhunt91 is the typical product of the American school system. Any stupider and I'd probably vote for her as her existence would prove it's failure :D.
That said, Pro failed here :D
