pmagyar's Debates
![]() |
I don't really know quite yet.
I am currently in the mood for a good debate. But my dilemma is that I don't know what to debate about. So if you disagree with me on an issue in my profile, then please argue with me about it. I would like this debate to be on one of those issues, so please limit yourself to that issue. I will make the first argument, so if my opponent would just tell me the resolution, I will be happy to make my opening arguments. Thank you, and good luck....
Private School vouchers should be utilized in the United States.

First, some parameters: The term Private School vouchers, for the purposes of this debate are monies given to low income families so that they can choose to send their children to private schools or public schools. Also for the purposes of debate, these vouchers will be enough for tuition to the average private high schol (a little less the $5000). Assume the vouchers are paid for without increasing the deficit, and the cost is split between the federal and the state governments. If you don't li...
Police Profiling is a good thing.

I believe that police profiling is not a bad thing, and back my belief with numerous reasons. For this debate we will go by this definition of police profiling - The use of demographics and statistics by law enforcement to deter, prevent, and apprehend criminals. Police profiling is effective; Police profiling is a very effective way of catching criminals and preventing crime, and allows the police to focus on areas where crime is high, and needs to be prevented. Racial Profiling isn't...
Preventing the acquisition of nuclear weapons is Just (full resolution in 1st argument)

The resolution doesn't fit in the title, so here it is: It is just for the United States to use military force to prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons by nations that pose a military threat Observation 1: The resolution presupposes no specific context about US policy making. There is no definition of which nation is acquiring nuclear weapons, so thus the resolution should be treated as an abstract principle about whether or not an action could be Just. Observation 2: The resolution...
Resolved: In the United States, plea bargaining for testimony is unjust.

AFFIRMATIVE I strongly affirm with the following resolution when it states; "Resolved: In the United States, plea bargaining for testimony is unjust." My Paramount Value for this round is Justice, which is defined as giving each his due in a fair and impartial way. My Value Criterion for this round is The Maximization of Rights, for I strive to obtain the most rights and forms of justice for all society. Raising the people's rights to the highest possible degree. Contention I- Gui...
Does philanthropy contradict natural selection?
The longer I ponder on the meaning and purpose of charity and morals, the more at odds it appears with natural selection. Philanthropy appears to fit absolutely nowhere in a Darwinian sense, as the Darwinian concept of natural selection is all about competition. Taking care of people and ensuring their survival with no incentive is entirely philanthropic. Helping your competitors appears to be the very opposite of Darwinian natural selection, and in fact, appears to completely undermine it....
