THAT IS NOT THE TOPIC OF THIS DEBATE. NET NEUTRALITY IS. I believe that Net Neutrality should be spared, and should be kept away from Virgin Media's grubby, greedy hands. For those who don't know, I'll summarize net neutrality in a simple way. Net neutrality is what lets you sit at your computer, hop on the internet, and visit every site on the internet at the same speed. Now, granted it will not always be the same each visit. There is sure to be differing ammounts of content on each site your computer has to process. What Virgin Media plans to do, is 'throttle' your internet. Which means, they can tell your computer to fo fast to one site, but slow to another. And they do this because, most people would pay to be in the fast lane. They can also block access entirely to sites you normally go to, and redirect you to sites their sponsors create. You all should know the definitions of liberal and conservative. Anyway along with the opening: I would argue that the media isn't liberal. In this I contend that their is a wide range of philosophies of reporters and news stations but the media IS NOT overhelmingly liberal. Conservatives have just said "the liberal media" so many times without any evidence that it has become a fact. A great quote that I have come to love from the 1962 movie "The man who shot liberty valance." A man was credited for shooting this notorious outlaw, Liberty Valance, but he never really shot him. This brought the man fame and many years later (in the movie) he was telling his biographer the true story, and admits he didn't shoot the outlaw, the biographer rips up his notes and walks out saying, "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend" We are printing the legend. For example what if you is on the metro rail by yourself, maybe at, 1:00 in the morning and nobody is around but one stranger. THat will give that person to rape, kidnap, or do anything that they want to do. 2)More fights.Late night metro rail can lead to fights because most likely there will be more drunks on the metro rail, and this could lead into a big fight because the person that is drunk might act stupid or do dumb things towards another person. Communism does not have a centralized government. They are closer to socialism than communism. I would say a mixture of totalitarian and socialism, because totalitarian is of or pertaining to a centralized government that does not tolerate parties. It is also often referred to as totalitarian and a dictatorship. Both are equally as wrong too. Communism: is a the opposite of capitalism so therefore it is impossible they are communistic. The first people who were allowed to use limited capitalism were the farmers back in the 50's because of the failure of collective farming. The whole country is one huge capitalistic machine now. Socialistic: means the state controls all production, manufacturing and business. That is impossible as well since individuals own businesses and those state run businesses are a mixture of state and private working side by side. Currently today, less then 20% is state owned. 30 years ago it was 100%. Example, their oil industry is a mix of private and state working together and their cost per gallon of gas is $2.25.
