DUH! but why is the earth warming? my goal in this debate it to fight off the common theory that we are the couse of Global Warming. Global warming is a corner stone issue with many news media programs, as well as a corner stone issue for the democratic party. I had the privilege of talking to a scientist who testified as well as 6 others in front of congress. He says, and i quote "The largest production of Carbon Dioxide in the world isn't even close to use, its in the ocean, its plankton." He also told me that we have very little if any effect on the worlds climate. he says that the second largest production comes from south America in the rain forest (in which he spent 10 years in studying). He says that the trees in the rain forest store carbon dioxide for hard times when they need energy, when the hard times don't come and the tree is fully grown they let out the carbon dioxide. My first statement is that http://www.debate.com/debates/Man-Made-Global-warming-is-a-Hoax/1/comments/ 2008-08-08T07:29:35-08:00 George w. bush is a good president http://www.debate.com/debates/George-w.-bush-is-a-good-president/1/ George w. Bush is consistently blamed for the war on terror. Since you are young you might not remember, but when the attack happened people all wanted to declare war on terror. President Bush stated that the war would last more than his term in office. Farther more the American public has lost their patience and their patriotism. We are not fighting to just help these countries but to protect our own. War is not something that can be fixed over night it takes a long time. http://www.debate.com/debates/George-w.-bush-is-a-good-president/1/comments/ 2008-08-07T18:08:50-08:00 McCain is more a more suitable president than Barrack http://www.debate.com/debates/McCain-is-more-a-more-suitable-president-than-Barrack/1/ Lets review the issues please Abortion: Voted NO on defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP. (Mar 2008) Voted NO on prohibiting minors crossing state lines for abortion. (Mar 2008) Voted against banning partial birth abortion. (Oct 2007) Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007) Voted NO on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. (Jul 2006) Voted YES on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005) Sponsored bill providing contraceptives for low-income women. (May 2006) The economy: Barack Obama plans on saving the government $150 billion by eliminating tax cuts for people who don't need them. He rejects a free market vision of government, and believes that Bush's economic policies are not working. Voted NO on $40B in reduced federal overall spending. (Dec 2005) Healthcare: Barack Obama supports end-of-life self-medication, but opposes euthanasia. I am referring to presidents of the United States of America. 2. The overlying assumption is that they are duly elected for each term. 3. I am referring to changing the current system for the future, not saying that this would have been better in the past. 4. Unlimited is referring to the number of terms. Arguments: 1.6 years is a compromise between the current 4 or 8 years that is the current law, and would result in an easy transition. 2.Unlimited terms would allow a good president to be elected repeatedly, and discourage presidents from last minute actions that would prevent them from being elected in the future. 3.Non-consecutive terms would prevent someone from staying in power for too long, allow the president to focus on running the country rather than trying to get elected for another term, let the people and business be able to plan ahead more accurately, allow the people to see the long term results of any actions by a president before voting for http://www.debate.com/debates/Presidents-should-serve-6-year-unlimited-non-consecutive-terms./1/comments/ 2008-08-07T12:40:40-08:00 At the current rate, is the Swazi royal Family at risk of being deposed? http://www.debate.com/debates/At-the-current-rate-is-the-Swazi-royal-Family-at-risk-of-being-deposed/1/ I personally believe it is quite a possibility that the royal family of the Swazi royal family would be deposed. His Majesty King Mswati III promotes polygamy and shows little compassion for his people. It is quite possible that if tradition persists to rule in today's society, and the Swazi people aren't seeing much being done for them, then a major political revolution will take place in Swaziland. It's not a matter of scenarios, it's a fact. http://www.debate.com/debates/At-the-current-rate-is-the-Swazi-royal-Family-at-risk-of-being-deposed/1/comments/ 2008-08-06T20:07:20-08:00 Obama should have accepted McCain's request for town-hall debates http://www.debate.com/debates/Obama-should-have-accepted-McCain-s-request-for-town-hall-debates/1/ I argue that Senator Obama should have accepted Senator McCain's general request for town-hall debates. Seemingly, one could argue that the role of government (and of course Obama and McCain are vying for its top spot) is to do what is best for its country/society. Therefore, what must be determined is how one figures out what is indeed best for the country. There are often many opposing viewpoints provided by numerous people and parties. However, for the government to truly determine what is best, collectively, debate and argumentation must be pursued. Thus, because of the declination of the pursuit of truth via these debates, Obama is seemingly in error (on this issue). For additional background regarding McCain's proposal and Obama's declination, see the below sources. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080802/ap_on_el_pr/presidential_debates http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/04/mccain.town.hall/ Depending on my opponent's response, I may get more detailed in my logic http://www.debate.com/debates/Obama-should-have-accepted-McCain-s-request-for-town-hall-debates/1/comments/ 2008-08-05T19:17:19-08:00 george bush is bad because of wars and he started it http://www.debate.com/debates/george-bush-is-bad-because-of-wars-and-he-started-it/1/ jorge is bad because of giving the arabs guns and ammunition and plus he was the one who then said that theyve got weapons and attcked them so that they could get the oil from the country to become even more rich driving the arabs poor./then jorge bush also bombed the 2 building from 911 so he could attck iraq. http://www.debate.com/debates/george-bush-is-bad-because-of-wars-and-he-started-it/1/comments/ 2008-08-07T20:00:38-08:00 Thos who say "no WMD were found in Iraq are either Misinformed, or Prevaricators http://www.debate.com/debates/Thos-who-say-no-WMD-were-found-in-Iraq-are-either-Misinformed-or-Prevaricators/1/ I've often heard the statement "there were no WMD found in Iraq". When I challenge this statement, I recieve disdain and contempt from the prevaricator who made the statement. When asked, I delineate the WMD that were found, only to recieve more verbal attacks. The truth of the matter is there WERE WMD found before, during and after Operation Iraqi Freedom. Those who state otherwise are either misinformed or Intentional prevaricators. http://www.debate.com/debates/Thos-who-say-no-WMD-were-found-in-Iraq-are-either-Misinformed-or-Prevaricators/1/comments/ 2008-08-06T13:24:46-08:00 The Minimum Wage should be abolished. http://www.debate.com/debates/The-Minimum-Wage-should-be-abolished./2/ I think that the minimum wage should not be abolished because I think everyone deserves a fair wage. Your response? http://www.debate.com/debates/The-Minimum-Wage-should-be-abolished./2/comments/ 2008-08-02T18:38:49-08:00 Politicians often claim a Christian background, but American politics are rather unchristian. http://www.debate.com/debates/Politicians-often-claim-a-Christian-background-but-American-politics-are-rather-unchristian./1/ I've heard many political conservatives invoke God's blessing on our nation and on our troops. Unfortunately, there's nothing Godly or Christian about the pro-war position conservatives often gravitate to. Many political liberals are also guilty of this same inconsistency, but I feel conservatives are more war-prone than liberals. Jesus instructed us to love our enemies and do good to them. Instead, we ask for God's blessing as we bomb and destroy our enemies -- actions that I believe no TRUE Christian could condone. I believe we should stop asking for God's blessing, and ask for his MERCY. War and violence is an affront to Jesus and his teachings in the Bible. Destroying human life, God's creation, is a heinous departure from the teachings of Christ. This debate is not about the legitimacy of the Iraq war or any other war. It is about the inconsistency of a purported Christian devotion crossing with support for any violence or war. http://www.debate.com/debates/Politicians-often-claim-a-Christian-background-but-American-politics-are-rather-unchristian./1/comments/ 2008-08-07T10:00:02-08:00 Topic #34 - The US should adopt a timetable for Withdrawl from Iraq http://www.debate.com/debates/Topic-34-The-US-should-adopt-a-timetable-for-Withdrawl-from-Iraq/1/ As Pro, I will be defending that the United States should adopt a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. Thus, the Polar opposite stance that my opponent will have to prove is that the united States should not adopt a timetable for withdrawlf from Iraq. To be judged by James Fong, Maximilian Powers, and Dan Alexander. Definitions: Timetable - A schedule listing the times at which certain events are expected to take place Withdrawal - retreat or retirement of an army or other military force from an area in which it was fighting In Laymans terms, The US needs to set up a time limit to get our troops out of Iraq This war has cost America. Not only finacially[ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11880954/ ] but with lives as well [http://www.npr.org/news/specials/tollofwar/tollofwarmain.html?ps=bb2]. The war was started in direct retribution of the acts on September 11, 2001. Further reason was given stating that there were WMD's, when in the last 7 years, a continuous search has still come http://www.debate.com/debates/Topic-34-The-US-should-adopt-a-timetable-for-Withdrawl-from-Iraq/1/comments/ 2008-08-06T14:19:07-08:00 Resolved: Military Conscription is unjust http://www.debate.com/debates/Resolved-Military-Conscription-is-unjust/2/ Greetings and good luck to my opponent. I hope the best debater wins. The title seems to be straightforward; however, I will use some definitions to clarify it: Military 1. Of or pertaining to soldiers, to arms, or to war; belonging to, engaged in, or appropriate to, the affairs of war; as, a military parade; military discipline; military bravery; military conduct; military renown. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Military) con·scrip·tion –noun 1. compulsory enrollment of persons for military or naval service; draft. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Conscription) un·just –adjective 1. not just; lacking in justice or fairness: unjust criticism; an unjust ruler. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Unjust) I believe that military conscription is unjust in many ways. First and foremost because it contradicts the beliefs and principles set down by our founding fathers: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that http://www.debate.com/debates/Resolved-Military-Conscription-is-unjust/2/comments/ 2008-08-06T16:00:46-08:00 Justice delayed is justice denied http://www.debate.com/debates/Justice-delayed-is-justice-denied/1/ Obviously in a democracy, it takes a lot of time for a statement to be passeded, in such a situation, the case goes out of the mainstream and people forget the culprit and the depth of situation. so how can how think of justice in such a case? http://www.debate.com/debates/Justice-delayed-is-justice-denied/1/comments/ 2008-08-05T22:19:15-08:00 The USFG should fully fund the ITER program until its completion. (Policy Debate Aff) http://www.debate.com/debates/The-USFG-should-fully-fund-the-ITER-program-until-its-completion.-Policy-Debate-Aff/1/ Resolved: The USFG should substantially increase its AE incentives in the US. Plan: The USFG will fund ITER till its completion in 2016. Observation 1 is Inherency: Frank Munger, 2008 (staff writer, July 3rd, Lexis) Oak Ridge is home to the U.S. effort on the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, a huge project. The fiscal 2008 budget approved earlier by Congress slashed the spending for ITER - allotting only $10.7 million, instead of the proposed $160 million - and endangered U.S. participation in the project Obv. 2 Solvency. Funding is imperative to the ITER project Munger 2008 Oak Ridge National Laboratory Director Thom Mason said supplemental funding will be used to keep the U.S. team together and sustain operations. More than $200 million is being sought for the ITER project. Additional funds for this year were particularly important because the government may operate under a continuing budget resolution for the first six months of fiscal 2009 and freeze http://www.debate.com/debates/The-USFG-should-fully-fund-the-ITER-program-until-its-completion.-Policy-Debate-Aff/1/comments/ 2008-08-03T13:07:03-08:00 war in afghanistan http://www.debate.com/debates/war-in-afghanistan/1/ before the soviets invaded afghanistan in the late 1970s, the country thrived in its own culture and was a community based on religion and peace. with the russian invasion came the introduction of communism, a political ideology that afghanistan did not accept. to fight against the domino theory, the united states sent aid to osama bin ladin and other terrorist organizations that banded together to fight off the soviets and remove them from afghan soil. however the taliban then became obsessed with its own power and control, and usurped power from the soviets only to hold onto it themselves rather than restore it to the community or previous afghan rule. today, bin ladin uses extremist brain washing techniques along with (mostly) terrorism to get afghan citizens to conform to his beliefs/rules. the situation in afghanistan is similar to nazi control of the jews. people are being killed unjustly for little to no reason at the hand of a violent terrorist group that commits heinous cr http://www.debate.com/debates/war-in-afghanistan/1/comments/ 2008-08-06T10:55:17-08:00 Bring it, I'm bored. Challenge me on anything http://www.debate.com/debates/Bring-it-I-m-bored.-Challenge-me-on-anything/1/ I haven't been on here in a while and I'm looking for some intellectual stimulation. Challenge me on any subject you like, but keep in mind that I'm an international politics major and my main non-academic interest is sports. So if you challenge me on the merits of Inuyasha vs. Dragonball Z or some crap I wouldn't expect a very good debate. INTRODUCTION I affirm the resolution 'Military conscription is unjust.' My definition of military conscription for this debate reads: a general term for involuntary labor demanded by some established authority. It is most often used in the specific sense of government policies that require citizens (often just males) to serve in the armed forces. It is known by various names — for example, the most recent conscription program in the United States was known colloquially as 'the draft' (Wikipedia). I also encourage that this debate focus primarily on the United States; that is to say that the resolution actually reads: (Legalizing) military conscription is/would be unjust in the United States. If my opponent disagrees with these parameters, I ask that it be addressed along with reasoning detailing the opposition. II. CONTENTIONS 1. Rights 2. Morality 3. Effectiveness 4. Cost 5. Necessity 6. Impact 1. Here's how the debate will work: Contender R1: Propose 3 resolutions of varying topics. Instigator R2: Choose a resolution to debate. Contender R2: Choose "PRO" or "CON", and first or second. If the contender goes first, he/she cannot post an argument in the final round. If the contender goes second, the debate will proceed as normal. http://www.debate.com/debates/To-be-chosen./1/comments/ 2008-08-08T07:55:47-08:00 To be revealed. http://www.debate.com/debates/To-be-revealed./2/ As you can see, this debate is 5 rounds. In the contender's round 1, he/she will propose 3 different topics of debate that COVER VARIOUS FIELDS. (I don't want 3 debates about abortion but worded differently, for example.) Then in my round 2, I will choose one of the resolutions. The contender will then, in his/her round 2, choose PRO or CON and whether to go first or second. If he/she goes first, to keep the number of arguments per person equal, he/she must include the opening argument in the response, and cannot post an argument in the final round. (Forfeit, spam, etc.) However, if I am forced to go first, the debate will proceed as normal. Either way, we will both have the normal 3 rounds to debate. http://www.debate.com/debates/To-be-revealed./2/comments/ 2008-08-07T16:00:13-08:00 Those who oppose the Death Penalty should also appose abortion on demand. http://www.debate.com/debates/Those-who-oppose-the-Death-Penalty-should-also-appose-abortion-on-demand./1/ I often hear people denunciate the practice of capital punishment because it's inhmane. Although I disagree, I understand the perspective. What puzzles me is the large percentage of those whom I discuss the issue are, in fact; pro-choice. Some become reticent when I include partial birth abortion, but still support the practice for reasons other than the mothers' life being endangered. I find that to be a conundrum. . . http://www.debate.com/debates/Those-who-oppose-the-Death-Penalty-should-also-appose-abortion-on-demand./1/comments/ 2008-07-30T06:26:45-08:00
